Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice describes information handled through Michigan Released Inmates, how that information supports site operation, and when outside services may receive it. It covers details visitors submit, routine technical data, cookies, advertising, analytics, and search-partner activity. It does not govern MDOC, OTIS, MI-VINE, Michigan courts, county sheriffs, BOP, ICE, or any other linked source. Those organizations apply their own policies. By continuing to use this site, a visitor accepts the practices stated here.

Information You Submit

Search entries

A name, place, or other term entered in a search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Michigan Released Inmates does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider’s privacy terms control its receipt and handling of the query.

Messages sent to us

If a visitor sends an email or contact-form message, we retain the information needed to read and answer it. Contact details and message contents are not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law or a valid legal process.

Technical Data Collected Automatically

Ordinary server, security, and analytics systems can record technical information when a page loads. This helps operate the statewide Michigan reference, measure performance, and detect faults or misuse. The data may include:

  • the internet protocol address used for the request;
  • browser name, browser version, and language settings;
  • device class and operating system;
  • pages opened and the time spent on them;
  • the referring page or site, when supplied; and
  • request dates and timestamps.

Cookies

Cookies and similar tools may be used to understand visits, retain basic preferences, measure advertising, and improve performance. Browser controls can reject or delete cookies. Blocking them may cause certain site, partner-search, analytics, or advertising features to work differently.

How Information Is Used

Collected information is used for limited operational purposes tied to this website and its services. Those purposes include:

  • keeping pages available, secure, and responsive;
  • sending a search request to the selected partner service;
  • learning which Michigan resource pages visitors use;
  • diagnosing errors and other technical problems; and
  • displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests.

Other Websites and Public Systems

Links may lead to OTIS, MI-VINE, MiCOURT, Michigan county sheriff resources, BOP, ICE, county subdomain sites, or outside search tools. Once a visitor leaves, the destination’s terms and privacy policy apply. Michigan Released Inmates does not control those systems, their data, or their response to a correction or deletion request. A request concerning an official record must go to the office that maintains it under its own rules, including Michigan FOIA where applicable.

Advertising providers may use cookies or related technology on their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their collection, profile controls, and retention practices are governed by their policies, not this Privacy Notice.

Parties That May Receive Data

Michigan Released Inmates does not sell personal information. Limited data may be transmitted or disclosed to:

  • search partners that process terms entered in their tools;
  • analytics services that measure use and site performance;
  • advertising networks that deliver or assess ads; and
  • law enforcement or another government body responding to a valid legal order.

Security Measures and Limits

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information handled directly by this site. No internet transmission, connected service, or storage method is fully secure. Michigan Released Inmates cannot promise that a breach, unauthorized access, loss, or interception will never occur.

Visitors Under Eighteen

This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under eighteen. A parent or guardian who believes a minor submitted personal information may use the Get in Touch page to request review and deletion from systems controlled by this site.

Your Privacy Choices

Subject to applicable law and the nature of the request, a visitor may ask Michigan Released Inmates to:

  • provide a copy of personal information held directly by the site;
  • correct inaccurate contact information;
  • erase information the site controls; or
  • honor an available opt-out from certain processing.

These choices do not reach records held by MDOC, a county sheriff, a court, MI-VINE, BOP, ICE, or a search partner. Requests about those records must be made to the relevant custodian or provider.

Changes to This Notice

This Privacy Notice may be revised as site practices, services, or legal duties change. A revised version becomes available on this page with a new effective date when an update is posted.
